1. Which of the possible venues do you think would best suit this play? Why do you believe the dramatic action would be best served in this venue?
The thrust theatre would be the best in this situation so when the car is on the stage, you can easily see the characters in the front seats. The audience on the sides will clearly see them through the window as well as the audience in the front. The play is supposed to be like a deep secret so having the audience closer seems more intimate.
2. What are some of the design challenges posed by the play?
Thedifficult thing about this play is that it is very simple and not so dramatic. It is a play that doesn't need so much extra things to make it pop like The Phantom of the Opera. So, the difficult part is to make it simple yet not bore the audience. Another challenge is when various characters like Lil Bit. She needs to be young but not extremely young and have Uncle Peck the perfect actor.
3. Choose the various chorus characters and discuss how you see them dressed. In what ways do you think the costumes you describe would help articulate their purpose in this play?
I imagine the chorus would be dressed in gowns. They serve as her memory throughout her childhood and sometimes they say what Lil Bitis thinking. So, it is best for them all to be matching and simple yet elegant outfits to show that they are more like figures than actual live characters.
4. Provide some ideas about the use of light in the play?
The light in this play should feel homey and also sometimes dim. During the car scenes, there should be maybe only one or two lights that mimic street lights at night. When Lil Bit and Uncle Peck are alone in a room, it should be not so bright because it'll feel more "romantic". Since they are hiding their relationship, the lights should not shine so bright and make them very obvious.
5. Suggest music and sound effects that could help accentuate the mood or atmosphere of the play.
Whenever the scenes show Lil Bit as a younger girl, the music should be more lively and youthful. When she is older or in distress, the music should be more serious and intense. Sound effects would be good for certain scenes like when she is driving. Great sound effects would be like acceleration or sudden breaks throughout the training lessons.
